Luca Lashes is a series of eBooks to help children brave the scary, unknown of learning to go through first time situations. I was fortunate to be able to review Luca Lashes and His First Trip to the Dentist, and Luca Lashes Learns to Brush his Teeth.
My youngest has an appointment to see the dentist for the first time next month, and this was a perfect series to review. The stories have a lyrical rhyming pattern that my daughter enjoyed. And the bright, vivid illustrations helped her visualize everything that she would experience. She had lots of questions about the instruments, the chair, and the glasses, which she thought were “cool, super spy like glasses”.
The back of the book has a parent’s section that helps moms and dads navigate through the sometimes frightening first time jitters kids face. In addition, their website has printable coloring pages and activities. My daughter and I worked on the “Spot the difference” activity while we talked. It was a perfect way to keep the discussion light, while I gave her an “emotional checkup” about her upcoming checkup. Interactive app are also available.
I give the Luca Lashes series five stars; what a great series!
