With Black Friday looming on the horizon, I thought it would be appropriate to ask for this week’s Monday Musings, “Are there any special gifts you are buying this Christmas?”
My husband and I don’t have anything on our list. We feel blessed, and aside from just the joy of being together, can’t think of anything that we want under our tree. But I still want to get him an awesome gift. By this time he has usually made his list of games he wants. He also collects Star Wars memorabilia, but I am hesitant to getting something “authentic” that is really just junk. The Dallas Cowboys are his favorite team, but he already has a suede jacket, and jerseys galore.
When I surprised him with the jacket, the look on his face was priceless. I want to capture that look again. So any ideas ladies?
For our kids, the list is pretty simple. A few video games, a few toys. They have had their list made out for awhile now. My youngest says, “That’s what I want for Christmas”, to every toy commerical that comes on.
Every year we have a few staple gifts. Books are one of these.  I usually add some of the latest books to my kids’ favorite collections, like the April Grace series, or Vet Volunteers for my daughter, and Star Wars for my son. Anything Barbie, Tinkerbell, or Princess fits my youngest.

This year is so tight financially I’m mixing things up a bit. I’ve hand-made all the christmas cards, and I’m giving everyone a box filled with handmade goodies such as brownies, cinnamon butter, fudge etc. And for my daughter (apart from her stocking gifts) her main present is second hand. Which is awesome because it was something I had wanted to get her but was FAR too expensive, and then I found it second hand for a fraction of the price. When my family asked what I wanted I honestly couldn’t think of one thing. Maybe I’ll ask for a new pair of winter shoes or something

I love homemade gifts! One year I made personalized stockings for everyone. My nephew got an OU stocking, my niece got one with horses on it, etc. Another year I made quilts for everyone, again, personalized to fit their likes/personality. My favorite was my niece’s flip flop quilt. It had bright colors and a large applique flip-flop in the middle.
